What A Great Idea!

Building a new system or even upgrading one is a great achievement.  Like most great achievements, it starts from an idea.  Leverage our agile framework to bring life to your idea.  There are five principles to successfully convert a great idea into reality. Our approach works with these principles to bring your idea into motion and to produce a functional, business system.

Get
Organized

Hatching an idea into reality requires a conscious effort to convert wishful thinking into business ideas.  Have a clear image of your target market as well as the products you offer and determine the viability of your idea against these factors.  Will your idea take your company outside of its comfort zone?  Are you prepared to take the risks?  These are the types of questions that can’t be answered without sufficient background information to form your conclusions.

The path towards innovation is not an easy one otherwise everyone will be doing it.  For an information system, our approach is to undertake conceptual analysis and design.  This is a scientific process where we help you determine what things are important and how these are inter-related to achieve a “whole that is greater than the sum of its parts”.

Do Your Research

Gather the data to support your idea.  Find out if there are other ways that can achieve the same goal.  Test out your idea with others to see what value it holds.  You may even need to perform a market survey to validate your assumptions.

Make changes based on feedback.  Be flexible, malleable and adjust whenever possible.  Consider the insights provided by others.  Identify the show stoppers.  But most of all, listen to your own instincts and be persistent knowing that fear and doubt are there simply as warning signs that are to be considered and avoided.

Our role at UIMSystems is to provide you with extensive tools that will validate your assumptions such as our conceptual schema and domain-driven functional design pattern for services and microservices.  We take an engineering approach to the problem which means we back up your instincts with solid evidence.

Identify the patterns

Break down tasks into its basic form – into digestible chunks.  Then map out the details into a sensible project plan but don’t get bog down with the details.  What you want to achieve at this point is simply a high level master plan.  Ensure that the master plan describes the key milestones that you intend to keep as signposts of a complete road map – a familiar pattern.

Next, understand what makes a business a business.  Its culture, its ways of doing things (aka “tradition”), its company structure, its people, its business rules, the information it owns and control, its branding and its marketplace are things that make a business “tick”.  On top of these things is a “ghost layer” consisting of business patterns and practices that may or may not be apparent.

We help you to identify those business patterns and practices at the core to determine if they are compatible with the system being built.

PROTOTYPE YOUR
IDEA

This is when the rubber meets the road.  Now that you have gone beyond sketching and have an action plan, it is time to create a proof of concept.  A prototype is a minimal representation and a sample of the product you intend to create without committing to its full production.  The purpose is not only to evaluate the initial concepts but also to gain experience and deeper insight for implementing the final product.

A prototype also gives you an indication of the resources you will need as well as the funding that is required to get it done.  It can also culminate in a moment of truth when there is a test of wills particularly in the face of non-acceptance or failure to excite.

But the reality is a prototype is necessary at the beginning of every project when costs are contained.  The literature is replete with misguided projects that failed at the end or delivered half-done because this step was skipped.

Take the next
step

Build momentum.  Generate anticipation and excitement.  At this time your prototype may have undergone several iterations.  It may in fact be ready to be built in a true production sense.  You are now convinced that the end product can provide significant benefit to the company.  Now is the time to implement the rest of your master plan.

UIMSystems will extend its expertise in orchestrating your project activities. Our company takes an integrated and comprehensive approach, combining all of its services into a unified effective platform.
